Independent living

If you need support to stay in your own home, Supported Living may be able to help you by providing a home care worker.

What is Home Care?
The Home Care Service is made up of the following elements, and an assessment of your needs will identify which element is best suited to your needs .

  • The Home Care Service
  • The Home Care Mobile Night Service
  • The Home Care Elderley Mentally Ill (EMI) service
  • The Home Care Emergency Response Team
  • The Home Care Rapid Response Team

What do Home Carers do?
There are three types of care:

  • Personal care - for example assistance with feeding, bathing, toileting, getting in and out of bed, dressing and undressing.
  • Practical support - for example assistance with preparing meals, laundry, ironing and cleaning.
  • Emotional / social assistance and support - for example promoting social activity, letter reading and writing, or helping you to learn new skills.

How do I obtain Home Care?
If you or your carer think you need home care you should contact Careline by email or by telephone on 0151 233 3800 and ask for an assessment.

A social care worker will visit you at home and talk to you and your carer about how you are coping with daily life, your personal care, safety and social activities.

If you are in hospital, or admitted to Accident and Emergency after an accident, then medical staff will ask a hospital social care worker to talk to you.

This information will form the basis of your care plan, which is designed to meet your needs and may help you to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible.
