Young Roots Local History Project

Would you like to help us ?

  • Did you grow up in North Liverpool?
  • Do you remember the Rotunda Theatre, the Hippodrome, or even the Theatre Royal Palace of Varieties?
  • How many of the old local cinemas can you name?
  • Did you attend street-parties when you were younger, and if so, what were you celebrating?
  • Did you ever have a day at the races at Aintree - whether it was the Grand Prix, Speedway, or the Grand National?
  •  Do you have stories of glory days at Goodison or Anfield?

We are a group of students aged 14 - 16  researching the history of entertainment in the Anfield, Everton, Kensington, Princess Park (Toxteth), Belle Vale, County / Walton, Warbreck (Walton / Orrell) and Aintree areas, and would like to hear your stories.

On December 19th, we'll be hosting an exhibition and putting on a performance based on our research, at Liverpool Lighthouse (formerly the Gaumont Palace Cinema) on Oakfield Road, Anfield (times to be confirmed). Hopefully see you there!

If you have any memories to share, please contact Ed Barrett on 0791 480 9720, or via E-mail at Ed.barrett@ljmgroup.org.uk (closing date: Friday 7th December).

We look forward to hearing from you .
