Information for carers

If you are looking after a friend, relative or spouse who is sick, elderly, disabled, has an addiction or has mental health needs, or who needs support for any other reason, the Supported Living Portfolio within Liverpool City Council can offer you help and support.

As a carer we can offer you an assessment of your needs in your own right to help you do the things that you need to.

Supported Living have produced a new Carers Strategy, which explains how the council intends to meet carers needs. The strategy will also create opportunities for carers to be consulted making it easier to identify the needs of carers, provide information and give easier access to support. Supported Living is looking at new ways to offer support to carers and has introduced a new self assessment form for carers. You can request an assessment by:

If you care for someone with dementia or a mental illness we can offer additional support for you. The Carers vouchers scheme could help you have some time for yourself or to do things that you need to do without worrying how the person you care for will be looked after.

In April 2004 the council awarded a two year contract to Local Solutions, a voluntary organisation, to establish a carers organisation to improve information and advice to carers.
